Dr Pepper integrates themselves into Social Media with their ‘What’s the Worst’ strap line.

Utilizing the benefits of Social Media, Dr Pepper is being integrated into Facebook in order to provide fans with the opportunity to win cash and ringtones via their ‘What’s the worst that could happen’ tagline.

According to Marketing Magazine, a fan page dedicated to the brand will be the hub of their social media activity, challenging users to take part in their ‘What’s the worst that could happen’ takeover, tasking fans to risk embarrassing themselves by putting their status in the hand of the brand.

The fan page will be the location of brand based content, news and competitions, including the status takeover. Fans will also be given the chance to receive free ringtones which could be classed as ‘good or embarrassing’ free with their 330ml and 500ml bottles, knitting together their offline and online marketing efforts.

The social media activity will also be supported through TV advertising, as Dr Pepper plan to rerun a couple of their most popular past advertising campaigns.

Cathryn Sleight, the marketing director at Coca Cola GB commented saying ‘The Dr Pepper, ‘What’s the worst that could happen?’ creative has a successful nine-year heritage for the brand, and continues to resonate strongly with our teen audience.

“In 2010, we’re looking to bring the message to life, giving consumers a personal experience in social environments and scenarios that are relevant to them, and appeal to their sense of humour.”

By introducing their tagline into social media, Dr Pepper are opening it up to interaction from fans, creating shareable content and viral potential – highly valuable within online marketing.

This update is also set to unclude a new Zune Video area which enhances the current video marketplace, allowing users to stream media once purchased instead of having to wait for the download.

If your under 18, you’re going to have to wait for a parental control patch, as there are currently none with the new update – however, Microsoft are currently working on getting these finished so that users under 18 will be able to Tweet freely then.

All your Groups are belong to us

‘Control Your Info’ is a phenomenon coursing throughout Facebook right now, exploiting a weakness allowing for them to assume the role of admin for abandoned groups without any permission needed.

The control of these groups allows for the new owner to change the pictures, information, updates and issue messages to the members of that group, which is bad news for admin-less groups who face the threat of having malicious owners take over and utilize the groups for the wrong reasons.fb

The design is apparently Working As Intended, however it’s clear to see that the ability for anyone to assume the roll as an admin within Facebook groups where the admin has left, is a flaw and potentially dangerous in the hands of the wrong people.

‘Control Your Info’ have been taking over groups and replacing information with their own, raising awareness about this Facebook flaw, even if it has been done in a rather dis tasteful manner.

What Facebook need to do is to put a measure in place requiring the election of a new admin before the current can leave a group, instantly solving this current issue.

The owners of this ‘firm’ are claiming to help people remember to remain safe within social media, with their website clearly stating that they are NOT hi-jacking groups, simply ‘taking over’ them for a period of time to teach people a ‘lesson’ before restoring them back to what they previously were

Once they take over a group, they leave this message on the groups wall:

‘Hello, we hereby announce that we have officially hijacked your Facebook group.

This means we control a certain part of the information about you on Facebook. If we wanted we could make you appear in a bad way which could damage your image severly.

For example we could rename your group and call it something very inappropriate and nasty, like “I support pedophile’s rights”. But have no fear – we won’t. We just renamed it Control Your Info. Because this is really all we want:

Think about the safety in your social media life to the same extent you do in your real life.

We promise to restore your group name and leave the group by the end of next week. Don’t worry – we won’t mess anything up.

Best regards
