Mobile apps featuring more in above the line marketing

According to an article at New Media Age, brands are starting to place more importance upon mobile apps in their above the line advertising campaigns, with emphasis on outdoor creative.

Head of mobile at creative agency Ogilvy, Scott Seaborn commented saying that “Mobile apps are starting to infiltrate outdoor creative advertising… Orange’s SMS [customer loyalty] campaign, Orange Wednesdays, rarely featured in its above-the-line marketing until the launch of the Orange Wednesday’s iPhone app.”

Due to the success of the Orange Wednesday’s app, it was used as the focus of last month’s TV ad campaign. This is due to Orange, among other brands believing that mobile apps are key to engaging and retaining customers.

It’s not just the telephone network companies that are beginning to see the value of integrating their marketing efforts into marketing via mobile in order to retain customers. British Gas have recently begun to engage with their customers through an iPhone  app which allows users to calculate their gas bill. This has also been a centric focus in their outdoor advertising campaign too.

DirectGov have used their iPhone app on the Applestore to gain feedback about their approach to mobile which has helped to shape their overall marketing strategy.

Russian Fragrance ad mimic’s the Lich King

A Russian fragrance ad has been signed off which strikes a remarkable resemblance to that of World of Warcraft’s Second expansion trailer, Wrath of the Lich King. This cannot be accidental. Surely…?

Here’s the ad:-

This is outrageously brilliant! What do you think? Are Blizzard Entertainment on a warpath to claim back their new Lich King? Or has this ad gone under the radar?

PS3 Purchased – Now to get games…

That’s right! I have my Black Beauty – My Sony Playstation 3, albeit a bit later than everyone else and yes it is my second one but that’s not the point. I have it now and i’ve missed out on too much – what now?assassins creed 2

I bought it with Assassins Creed 2 – one of my favourite types of game in the world, ever. When i first had my PS3 last year, I had the first Assassins Creed which while it looked as if it would be amazing, it was unfortunetely repetitive and a bit disapointing. I was delighted to discover that Assassins Creed 2 had taken everything that was wrong with the first one, and blown it out of the water with an epic sequel – to which i completely agree!

However I’m now at the point where I want to broaden my 1 game horizon and give it a sibling – only one though, I’ve not got the time for any more. This leads me to the killer question – Which one?! There are so many fantastic titles out there at the moment, and some absolute corkers on way very soon (FF13!!! ) – here are my choices!

call-of-duty-4-modern-warfare-1Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 2 - I’ve never played this game, but I’ve heard by far too many people about how absolutely amazing it is, and to be honest, i should really man up and get into an FPS as lately i’ve been far to engrossed with RPG’s.With stunning graphics and a modern day setting, this seems like the FPS to quench my thirst for bullets, rather than 1920 based shoot em ups with guns that probably shouldn’t exist.bayonetta

Bayonetta – Again, I know jack about this game other than it looks pretty. I’ve been told by friends that it resembles the popular ‘Devil May Cry’ series with its fast pace, action based carnage – but again, i need someone else’s feedback on that (anyone?). I guess these types of games are great for escapism, hack and slash button mash.

darksidersDarksiders – One of my good friends James said that this is one of those games you play when your internets broken…not sure if that’s a good thing. I’ve read a few reviews about this game all raving about how good it is, IGN even commented saying that it resembled Zelda in parts, and the Ocarina of Time is one of the best games ever made, so that’s a good start!

So people – I need help, I’d like to choose one of these but if anyone has any suggestions outside of these three, please go ahead – there’s a lot I need to catch up on and a lot of games that I still don’t know about!

P.S. GTA 4 hasn’t been ignored, it’s on the to ‘buy’ list.
